20 Days of {Summer} Happiness!...Day 11 & 12

{Day 11 & 12} Double Trouble

Two areas of our house that has caused us the most grief would be our full and half bath.  The "full" bath has minimal space and the half bath has no space whatsoever.  Both have "lovely" floors that start with a "L" and end with "leum."  Yes, we would love to replace both of them but, unfortunately, that task hasn't made it to the top of the list quite yet...

So for "Trouble #1" we have tried to figure-out millions of ways to incorporate a very tiny shower in there and have, I believe, finally come to grips with the fact that not even a man-made or RV shower could ever possibly fit in that space.  As we have been trying to figure this all out, we have left it pretty much empty for the past four years.  A couple of weeks ago, I asked Captain America if we could "quickly" redo the floors, put in wainscoting, and paint the walls--all while we were waiting for the sink to come in to finish the kitchen....despite my exuberance, Captain America stated that we should probably stick to one project at a time...so all my plans came to a screeching stop but I realized that I could actually, you know, possibly put some type of objects in the room, in the meantime (what a novel idea, right?).  So, here it is...a little bit of happiness in this "Trouble #1"...just imagine it, with me, with different color walls (light grey?), white wainscoting, and tiny marble tiles...
For "Trouble #2", I'm going to focus on only one aspect: the shower (which is the only aspect we have really focused on, thus far). First of all, there is a window in the shower!  This was a brilliant idea of old houses....meaning the wood would rot from the condensation and constant water.  So, last weekend, we tore apart the whole frame and made a new frame with a special water-proof board (that isn't wood).  This week, I worked on caulking and recaulking everything.  I also cleaned all of the grout on the tiles and resealed it.  Seriously, I can't show you the before pictures...they gross me out to look at.  From these pictures, I just want you to notice how white and clean everything looks.  No one ever looks behind the shower curtains, so they don't know the before but believe me, this is a bazillion times better...
What the rest of "Trouble #2" looks like, may come up in a later post for you to see...but, for now, I'm so happy to shower in a sparkling, WHITE, place.

P.S. If you ever need to get your grout back to the color white, I have the perfect formula for you, just ask!

I would like to know...what did you use to clean your grout?

So the magic formula for me was a ratio of 1/4 bleach to 3/4 baking soda! This will produce a nice paste that you brush (with a toothbrush) onto all of the grout and leave it there for a while. Then, go back to give it a quick scrub to make sure it got into all of the crevices and wash everything off! If there are any areas you aren't happy with, you can just add more of the paste. This combo does wonders (I've tried other things). You will need to have gloves, mask, maybe eye coverage and clothes that you don't care about. Sometimes, I didn't even use the tooth brush, I just picked-up the paste and pressed it on the grout so that way all of the grout was covered.
You will have to reseal the grout afterwards so that way it doesn't come back! Let me know if you have any questions...
