The Start of a New Year

A couple of weeks ago, Captain America became one year older...an undisclosed number that starts with a 3.  To celebrate, we were able to get away from it all for two Saturday fun days. The first one didn't cost us much money since we have surf gear and the second one included his birthday present.

Captain America has been wanting to surf all summer and unfortunately we never had time to do it, so we were able to go on what happened to be the hottest day, ever, at the beach!  The waves weren't fantastic and we were already sweating before putting on the wetsuits, but it was absolutely beautiful with the sun glistening on the water.  The beach is just one of those places that my body needs a 'refill' of every once and a while.  It had been way too long since we had been there and it sure didn't disappoint!

For the following Saturday, I bought him tickets to see the Mariners (since the Seahawks are now insanely expensive).  We both agree that Seattle is one of our favorite cities in the United States, so we left early to see some of the city and, of course, Pike's Place.

It ended up being a pretty exciting game that went to eleven innings! The late night drive back proved to be equally as exciting...you can ask us about it sometime in person.

All in all, it was a great couple of days to celebrate another new year (as a teacher, my brain processes time according to an academic calendar).  For us, Captain America's birthday commences all of the birthdays, celebrations and holidays.  It is typically the marking point for when Summer leaves us and the new season of Fall (my favorite!) begins.  It is the time when we usually reminisce on the previous year and look back at what God has done in our lives.  This is a great time of year and it's with eagerness that we look towards what will happen next.

Is there a certain time when you annually look back on your year?
