July 2017 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

We hope that you are having a pleasant summer! July has been an exciting month as Jason has successfully finished with one month of French classes.  Andréa and others have already noticed a big difference in the way he has been able to pick-out words, understand conversations, and greatly increase his vocabulary.  It's exciting for him as he is able to minimally communicate with people he comes in contact with while living-out life here in Saint-Jérôme.  If you would like to give an additional amount to support his monthly progression in French, please respond to this email and we would love to share more with you about this program!

A large portion of this month was taken towards preparation and implication of "J'aime mon voisin" (JMV).  JMV is a service project for the local community, and each week the service project takes place in a different city in Québec.  Our week was during the second week of July, as this was our first time taking part in it, it was a bit of a learning-curve, which we hope we can learn from for next year!  Jason was involved with being the English-speaking point of contact for the two Ontario church groups that came for the week to serve.  A couple of other highlights that he was involved with were: successfully leading the group of 25 people on a tour of Montréal while navigating the métro and attempting to not lose anyone, as well as, leading the daily morning devotional and prayer time for those who were involved with serving the city!  Andréa was in charge of orchestrating housing for the Ontario group and setting-up the logistics for the daily projects and evening events.  All around it was a great week and we look forward to serving next year!  Let us know if you would like to come as a volunteer, next year, as a short-term mission trip (the previous year there was a youth group from Oregon).  Here are a few pictures from the week's activities:

A few answers to prayers have taken place this month for Andréa!  First of all, she has been feeling better and seeing health improvements.  Please continue to pray for her as she juggles life, being a mom, and living with UC.  The Fleur de Lys program has asked her to teach French to a small group of adult missionaries who will be here for three months in the Fall.  This will provide three-hours of work per day and will be a great opportunity for her to understand the program more and gain income with a part-time position.  Thirdly, we have just received news from the Québec Educational Ministry!  She is eligible to receive a teaching license until April 2019, contingent upon passing language proficiency exams (French or English).  This is AMAZING news, as she started the process back in September 2015; also, it is amazing when hearing first-hand how difficult it has been for others to have their license switched to this province, specifically.  Thank you to all of you who have been praying for this aspect for quite some time!

As we are feeling more settled, we are enjoying making deeper connections with people here.  We have had the privilege of being involved with marriage counseling, which is always enjoyable as it is a way to reflect on our own marriage.  We enjoy being available to others in the church and just being a phone call away to help-out in any way we can.  At the very end of this month, we were able to receive the rest of our furnishings, as a result of Jason's parents making the trek over.  We were especially excited about our brand-new dining table that was built by a dear friend!!  We have enjoyed meals with Jason's parents and look forward to now being able to host more people at our house!

In this next month, if you could keep us in your prayers in the following ways, that would be excellent:
  • Language learning: that Jason will continue to be diligent in his studies.
  • Andréa's health: that she can find the right doctors and/or naturopath as we learn how to navigate the Québec health system, which coverage will start in August.
  • Travel: we will be on a quick trip to the west coast for Andréa's brother who is getting married.  Please pray for ease of travel with Lydia, our time with loved ones, and as Andréa closes-off details with the school district and meets with her doctors.
Lydia is now six-months old!  She is waving at all whom she sees, her teeth continue to come in (but nothing to show for all of the work yet), and she is doing a lot more sitting-up and playing with toys.  Here she is at the lavender fields not far from our home.

We are ever so grateful for your prayer and support in our lives!

For His Glory,
Jason, Andréa & Lydia Maul
